Hello Medium friends, I am a course creator who specializes in creating online courses as the core of my online business.
Today, I want to share with you a perspective on being a knowledge blogger and course creation.
As an online course creator, I have experienced the pitfalls of perfectionism, and I have come to realize that it is not a sustainable approach. In this article, I would like to convey the message that when you aim for perfection, you may miss out on opportunities and hinder your growth.
Firstly, let’s talk about the often-mentioned term “perfectionism.”
Perfectionists strive for flawless performance, always aiming for the highest standards in every detail. While this may seem admirable, in practice, it can hinder our creative process and personal development.
When we demand perfection in every aspect, we significantly increase the cost in terms of time and resources.
When perfection becomes our sole goal, we tend to become excessively focused on technical details, neglecting the genuine connection with our learners. In the creation of online courses, our objective is to share knowledge and empower learners to understand and apply that knowledge.
However, if we become fixated on perfection, we may prioritize the form of content over its actual teaching effectiveness.
Furthermore, perfectionism often leads us into a state of overthinking and hesitation when faced with important, contentious decisions.
We find ourselves trapped in the quest for the ultimate solution, despite the fact that perfection does not exist in the real world. Instead, we should make judgments based on the current situation and our own experiences.
Moreover, the pursuit of perfection often blinds us to the opportunity for learning and improvement.
Every time we release a course, we receive feedback and suggestions from learners — invaluable resources for our growth.
Nevertheless, if we solely focus on attaining perfection, we may disregard this feedback, missing out on opportunities to correct and enhance our work. Yes, we might have a well-structured plan, but true value lies in continuous learning and adjustments based on learners’ expectations and feedback.
How to overcome the pitfall of perfectionism?
Speed.
Speed is the sharpest weapon against perfectionism.
If you set a short deadline before which you need to complete a task, you will not be able to focus on perfection. In fact, you can shift the focus from perfection to completion.
For example, it used to take me forever to create a course — forever because I procrastinate, and perfection is the best reason for procrastination.
Now I focus on efficient delivery with technology help.
Learning AI and ChatGPT is no longer an option, it’s a necessary because AI are killing 46%, almost half of the jobs.
When we walked into McDonald’s nowadays, we can see that the staffs have drastically decreased and replaced by robotic system for self-serving orders. And look at the banks — there are increasing use of AI as customer services and processing simple, routine instructions such as cheque deposit, cashing in and out.
Tons of corporations are looking into how to use AI for more productivity and efficiency and cutting head counts. All these are facts happening now.
And we need to prepare for the massive job elimination.
ChatGPT has affected the whole world now.
Some say that ChatGPT is the fourth industrial revolution. This statement may be a bit exaggerated, but it’s really not outrageous.
Many people have already faced a career change because of AI and ChatGPT. To put it bluntly, they may lose their jobs.
There are people who hate and fear about ChatGPT — asking whether it will replace human, whether it will outwit human, whether it will be the end of jobs and hundreds of thousands of people would be affected.
At the same time, there are a bunch of early adaptors to this innovation. In short, there will be massive change in education, scientific research, finance, business and other fields.
From the moment ChatGPT appeared, everything is destined to be different.
We like it or not, things will not go back in time to when we don’t have ChatGPT or AI, so resistance is rather meaningless .
But think about it the other way around, if we can make good use of ChatGPT, it will also be our opportunity.
Human beings will not be defeated by AI, but will be defeated by those people who master AI.
The only constant thing in the future is that the future will definitely get worse. The appearance of ChatGPT is definitely not an end but the beginning, and the change will not be linear.
ChatGPT will be the tool that we can leverage on to make massive wealth in a much shorter period of time.

In conclusion, as online business owner, we must acknowledge that perfection is a trap that can hinder our creative process and personal growth.
It is crucial for us to focus on establishing genuine connections with learners and prioritize actual teaching effectiveness.
Simultaneously, we should embrace a learning mindset and accept feedback and suggestions from learners, constantly striving to improve and deliver more value. There is no perfect product or course in the world, but through continuous learning and improvement, we can create better experiences and value.
