Answering these questions in this article:
“How do I stay focused on my goal, as my mind is getting disturbed thinking about other things?”
“How can I always be focused and dedicated completely towards anything?
“How can I become more self controlled and concentrate on one thing only to make me more efficient?”
“What are the good ways to learn to stay focused?”
A few tricks to focus better:
- Excitement and getting emotionally involved
When we are watching a good movie, we are so focus in it because it is exciting and we do not want to miss anything. The same applies in life.
If we have a goal that is very exciting to us, that the achievement of it would be so amazing and mean the world to us, do you feel like you would be able to focus on it?
Versus if it is a goal that is good to have but not a must, something that you want but you are ok not to have too, that you are not desperately and fully committed to the realisation of the same, your thought will send a message to your mind that this is not that important. Hence when it comes to energy and attention allocation, the idea of this wishy-washy goal will not get much attention or focus.
2. Re-arrange importance
We always focus on what is really important to us. Why we are able to show up at work each day even though most of us don’t like it and it probably is boring and routine? Because we rank it as important for us to make money, without which we cannot afford food, clothes and shelter. Because we think this is important, we focus on the execution of it.
There are many other things that we keep procrastinating in life, some of those things we desire and are exciting to us, but why are we unable to focus on those? Because we rank those things as less important to us at the moment. For example, if you have always wanted to start a business but have not done so yet, why? Because you want it but this is not the most important thing for you, you could be occupied with your work, family, health or any other pursuit at the moment and prefer to allocate your time and energy on those other aspects.
There is no such thing as having no time. We can always make the time for the thing that we consider important enough to allocate the time for. Procrastination serves us in a way that it is how we avoid doing things that are of lessor importance and priority to us.
If there is a new government rule that says who does not have a business tomorrow will be subject to 80% employee tax, do you think the majority, if not all people, would start a business TODAY? Why these people cannot find time or energy or motivation to do so before would be able to focus on that now? Because it is now considered by them as important (perhaps the most important thing to do today) so that they are able to focus on the execution of it to make sure that it is done today.
So if there is anything that you would like to focus on and get done, simply re-arrange your priority of importance. The importance list in our mind is under your control. It is not a factual objective assessment, but a purely personal and subjective ranking that you can decide.
