I recently received a private message which showed envy towards those who make quick money and achieve financial freedom in their early twenties.
It seems like they have a winner’s life while comparatively, we are nothing.
Our society is filled with people who want quick money and easy successes.
Even myself, sometimes I wish I were those pretties who get paid 5 figures or even 6 figures posting some photos for advertisement of products.
Every day, I have to spend a lot of time researching and carefully crafting my content.
Every week, I have to keep learning and keep using my brain to think about business growth and team management.
I am instantly reminded of the challenges I face.
Even though I have reached millionaire status, but it was by no means easy for me.
I started from being an employee, have worked in Fortune 500, venture capital firm, international hospitality group, and a startup which was later on listed in the stock market.
I went from an employee to business owner with 3 strategies: salary, business, and investment.
I began my side business when I was in corporate job and with salary and investment, I became a millionaire by age 29. One year later, I made some costly financial mistakes and lost my $1 million which I saved hard and worked hard for 7 years. It was a devastating blow to me. I even thought about living the rest of my life on social security…
3 months after my financial catastrophe I decided to start from afresh, and reached millionaire status again within 2.5 years this time.
So you can see,
Making money and achieving fame at a young age might not be such a good thing because you lack the necessary knowledge and wisdom to sustain that wealth.
When your understanding fails to keep up, you realize that the wealth beyond your comprehension can slip away in different ways.
Earning those few bucks might actually be a tougher path, yet if you can overcome it, the road ahead will become smoother and smoother because your capability increased.
This year, I have received many comments that made me happy, some saying, “You’re doing great, you really know a lot”.
Actually, before I became a course creator and business owner, I was an ordinary person among ordinary people.
But because I chose this industry, over the years, whenever I write about a certain subject, I spend months researching, consulting, and listening to other’s opinions and perspectives.
These experiences in recent years may not be significant on a day to day basis, yet it have helped me understand many things that I previously couldn’t comprehend, and gradually surpassing the knowledge of people my age.
All these learnings and lessons, even the mistakes I made, gave me a lot of confidence that if one day I somehow become poor again, I still have the ability to find ways to make a living, even making a fortune.
I recently stumbled upon a post about someone who started with a passion for painting and then became fascinated by photography. However, he did not persist in these endeavors.
Fortunately, his curiosity led them to try something new, and things took a turn. A year later, he made a multi-layered cake, and after receiving praise from his friends, He couldn’t stop creating beautiful cakes.
These creations have their unique touch and inspiration, derived from their previous experiences in painting and photography.
You see, there are no wasted learnings in life.
The experiences of the past could connect together.
Even if you cannot immediately make something work, it doesn’t mean that is wasted.
Just focus on doing your best and strive to improve your understanding.
When the day and opportunity comes, you will find a great gift waiting for you that looks like an “easy win” which in fact is the accumulation of what you’ve been through in the past.
