“I don’t have any dreams or goals or aspirations. I’m 33. How do I find my passion?”
I’ve met many people who feel like losing motivation and don’t know how to find the goals and not sure what exactly we want in life or where we are going. They would ask:
“‘I’m 25 , Lost & without life goal, what should I do?”
“What do you do when you don’t know what you like, what you want, and have no goals and dreams?”
“I feel like I have no dreams or goals, what do I do?”
“How do you set goals if you don’t know exactly what you want?”
“I don’t know what my dreams and goals are. How do I figure them out?”
“I’m a in my early 30s and I’ve lost motivation to do or achieve anything in life. When I ask myself what I want to do five years later, I don’t get an answer. Why don’t I have any dreams or goals? What is some practical advice?”
This is actually quite common since one of the biggest problem in the society in conformity. 95% of people muddle through life without really thinking about what they want. So the mere fact that you ask this question is a good sign that you are giving the idea of goals attention and thoughts.
Here’s how to find our goals — by going on a search. It is a quest like one go out and find a treasure. In the search, you may need to expose yourself to things that are previously out of your routine or comfort zone. The fact that you do not have a specifically strong desire to achieve something is a sign that your goal is not within your current lifestyle, it is not within your current routine. That is why you are without goals right now.
Similarly, if you are not sure what you like or what you want, it is because you have not met the things or being that you would really want to be or have (that you have the talent or resources within you to accomplish), therefore it appears that you are in a confusion state where you seem to have nothing that you like or want very much. One never really lose motivation — the energy and motivation is within us. When we feel like we lost motivation, it just indicates that we have not found the things or person that we would like to devote part or all of our life towards achieving. You need to search outside of your current circumstances. Join new groups, connect to new people, do something that you haven’t done before, expose yourself to new interests… all of these activities will help with your search.
An execution tips is that you can incorporate new attempts even in your daily routine: e.g. order a drink that you’ve never tried before when you buy your usual coffee before work, try a new road to work, go to a new restaurant for lunch, embark on a new project, take on new initiative, connect with new people throughout your day, pay attention to new billboards, read a magazine that you have not read before, go see a newly marketed real estate with a new agent…. the key is to keep an open mind until you see someone or something that really attracts you. That attraction is a sign that there is something you like or want that you can explore further to clarify about what it is that you want in life. You don’t set goals before you find this attraction and know what it is that you desire.
