How little you need to survive

I recently watched the interview of a Taiwanese comic drawer or so called a cartoonist who is almost a billionaire but he’s still keeping a very simple lifestyle. (the interview is in Mandarin so I won’t share here.)

I can see how satisfied he is on his face.

“When you’ve found your love in life, everything else doesn’t matter.” he said

He shared that he knew he loved to draw at age 4 and was determined to be a comic drawer since then

how lucky he was to know what he’s going to do in life at the age of 4!

he didn’t know this overnight, he had thought about it under his father’s desk for half a year, and decided it

He wasn’t highly educated, but he surely had a mind of his own

he was born in a poor rural family and his parents let him develop himself freely

at age 10, he was already publishing his comic and now he’s 76 in 2024 (still drawing)

one of the things that stuck with me about his interview is when he talked about how little he needs in order to survive

obviously when we are small, we know (from our parents or other adults) what occupation will make more money

and obviously drawing comic is not a popular occupation that is known for making a lot of money

hence he had thought about the financials as well, and his conclusion was:

“as long as I have enough for survival, I can keep drawing”

he never had a job in his life, he just drew

and he mentioned that it takes very little for him to survive — a piece of bread, a bowl of congee (not much rice), that’s what he needs a day

I’m amazed by how little his material desires are!

I really take it to heart and reflect on how little I actually need to survive

for those who know me, I have serious retirement anxiety

whenever I thought about retirement or early retirement before, I would feel extremely insecure, anxious and worried

I didn’t thought I’ll ever be able to feel safe enough to retire

but this cartoonist just needs that little to survive, and he is able to do great work with so little

What excuse do I have to need more than that?

A lot of times, we calculate how much we need to retire.

But seldom do we think about — “how little do we need”

P.S. want to be guided in clearing virus in the brain and creating abundance? I was broke 2 years ago and in just 2 years I went from near $0 to $1m +. I didn’t work harder, I created this.
