Feeling bored and wanting to make money on the side (and build a business)?
Hi Medium fam,
Just talked with a girl working full time, weekdays as a lab tech in an R&D lab. Money is decent, schedule is decent, culture is decent....
But she really likes to pick up a side gig maybe one day on the weekends or a couple hours a week after work. Could definitely use a little extra cash....but tbh she s mostly just bored lol 🤣
She s all about getting the most out of life and doesn't love having too much spare time to just wallow around and be lazy.
One immediate problem she face is finding her business idea and niche.
In her own words
"I have some technical skills and education, but nothing that I could use to really be a freelancer/ consultant/ coach (Not great with computers/coding/finances/accounting/ etc)"
So i worked to help her find it.... And guess what, we did find something that s amazing which is what she s passionate and has enough knowledge to get started and also fits the market demand in the next 5-10 years ahead.
Best bet to look into, i would say is looking into your own experience and skills....that is If you want to profit asap.
In my exp, Fastest and lowest risk way to make money with side gig is to do consulting/coaching leveraging on your existing exp and skills.
The only thing you need to take care then is getting clients, which can be much simplier than u think.
The faster you get actual paying clients, the faster you succeed and reduce the failure risk in business, because
1. cash flow is better when you have clients ✔️
2. Proof of concept and market validation ✔️
3. Real feedback to improve products or services without first doing and investing a ton but turns out that s not what people want ✔️ so higher satisfaction.
In my own business and all the businesses i help others to build, i always focus on getting paying clients soonest, typically its doable to get 1-5 paying clients within 3 months.
I was in your position and now have helped many 9-5 who wants to start a business but don't really know where to begin, so here're some thoughts:

If you can focus for 3 months, paying clients are almost guaranteed
3 steps to start a business and scale to 10k month asap
(Warning: it's simple and so many would try to find some magic, shiny strategies instead, thus getting distracted, but it's the simple things that are the "shortcut" and fastest most efficient path to results)
1. Know what you’re offering and its value
2. Engage with target customers
3. Sell (present and show them how to work with you)
