1 GAME to overcome the lack of motivation
Not sure if you played simcity before. An electronic games developed by Maxis & Blind Squirrel.
In fact, it's actually a simulation game of life. You can ask the sims to do anything that you instructed him or her to do.
Here is the official description of the sims game :
"Take your Sims to the city and explore everything it has to offer, from bustling action outside your door, to unique situations that come only with apartment living in The Sims™
EXPERIENCE CITY LIVING Explore a densely populated, urban city with a variety of neighborhoods each with its own unique personality.
DISCOVER CULTURAL FESTIVALS Enrich and grow your Sims by taking them to different festivals all over the city where they can watch street performers, enter competitions, and meet different walks of life.
LIVE IN APARTMENTS Experience the challenges that come with your Sims’ first apartment, then work your way up the penthouse of their dreams."
Sounds like our life? We live in relatively dense city and we want to explore different festivals. We explore different cities by traveling. And we have our own living routine and life experience with family and neighbours and friends. Plus, we want to work our way up to more money and bigger houses!
When you play the sims, you can order your sims to cook, to social, to draw, to clean the house etc....
And it doesnt matter what the sims think, they have to do what you have arranged for them. Sometimes their energy level could be low, but if you ask them to clean the house at that time, they would still do it (despite sometimes shaking their heads to wake themselves up).
If you ask them to social, even though they may be introverts they would still find someone to talk to.
It's pretty fun to be in control of one's life. (note :this is not advertising. I am not promoting the electeonic games and am not an affiliate of the sims)
But it helps us to overcome the lack of motivation!!
How? Just put ourselves into the shoes of the sims.
What we need to do is to arrange our daily agenda and calender (time block or whatever tools you prefer) and do exactly has been arranged, without thinking without considering "whether we can" "whether we would be rejected" "whether we feel like doing it".
Just do it, as arranged.
Lack of motivation simply means we don't feel like doing it, we may have some doubt about doing what we need to do.... Anyhow we dont want to do it now.
The sims have no choice, they can only live life as arranged. While this may feel like freedom is lacking, you won’t feel that if you are also the one who arrange and control the sims.
So you only need to play the reality sims game, you being both the player and the sims - as a player you arrange what you need to get done in your best interest to work your way up, and as a sims you do what is needed without thinking and without any room of negotiation.
The hardest part to overcome the lack of motivation is getting started. And the sims can help us do that. Remember we are our own sims!!
Once you have started doing it for even 1 minute, you would feel that it’s actually not that bad as you may have imagined. That is because psychologically when we don’t want to do something, our mind will help us to exaggerate the hardship of doing what we need to do to help justify our thinking and decision not to do it.
That's why once we get started, we will find doing the task is not as bad. And we can naturally continue with it.
The getting start part is hard because our mind can conjure up untrue fear to support our excuse of lack of motivation.
The solution? Remember that we are our own sims! No choice, just execute as planned and you will thank yourself later!
To your success,
Connie
